Preseason Testing Highlights (in F1 speak)

We made our first trip out to the track Sunday with the new and (hopefully) improved Camaro. With Formula 1 preseason testing going on now, let’s get in the spirit and provide the highlights in F1 team press release speak:

  • Great pace early on in the session (the first pass was the quickest ever: 6.81) but it’s still too early to draw definitive conclusions
  • Pleased with first impressions on the new suspension developments (the sway bar seems to work well)
  • Data gathering on mixture settings will continue in the next test (we’re on a steep learning curve with E85, but practice and lots of research makes perfect)

And with that, on to the video!

Winter Project: Better, Faster Camaro

36x24_xmas_print

It’s been a while since an update on our project vehicles. The summer was a success, with the Camaro running most of the bracket racing season without issue, falling into a consistent rhythm for much of the year. Our quiet goal when we rolled off the trailer in the spring was to make the Bracket Finals, and at the last points race leading up to them we made it in.

But there’s no rest for the weary (or is it the wicked?), Read the rest of this entry »

Super Saturday

Since winter seems to have skipped right over us (though it is 40 degrees today), we decided to make the maiden trip to the track in our new for 2012 configuration: Camaro in the trailer, truck following behind. Pretty uneventful trip, which is precisely what we were looking for.

Got 5 runs in with the car, no surprises other than the fact that mineshaft air conditions had it bit lean.

The truck was much the same, little bit of a stumble off the line due to lack of fuel, but only managed to make two passes after discovering a little leak out of the back of the water pump.

A 6 Second Camaro!

We made a trip to North Star on Friday last week to 1) get driver B (myself) a little seat time, and 2) try out a few new things with the car. We managed a string of 6’s, with a best of 6.93 at 98.9, in pretty marginal air.

Followed that up with a few more .98s last night at the bracket race with near liquid air, but we’re still looking for our first trip to the tower for a little gas money at the end of the night. Either way, pulling into the lanes with a 6 on the side just feels better, even if it is just a few thou difference.

In other news, I’ll be taking the car back to NorthStar next weekend for DallasImports’ DIPalooza, come check it out! More info at www.dallasimports.net
